Wellness Programs

Whether you are starting a wellness program from scratch or assessing your current program, you should ask one key question: “What is the purpose of the wellness program?”

If the answer is “to control healthcare costs” or “produce a positive return on investment,” then consider the following to determine if the program and incentives are designed to adequately meet this objective.

A successful wellness program should have 4 main components:

Health Screens (data collection) – Health Risk Assessments and Biometric Screening

Health Improvement  Programs – Assess data and strategically improve health risks of targeted individuals

Compliance Programs – Create an environment and incentive structure that promotes HIGH participation in a positive manner

Reporting – Varied methods (individual, aggregate, ROI, and custom) provide accurate and transparent coverage to assess and modify the program as necessary

Although these 4 components are important for success, we understand that different employers are at different stages and have different budgets.

Not all companies can immediately adopt a comprehensive program. Because of this, we custom build our programs, offering a range of products from simple health risk assessments to comprehensive population management programs.

Health Screens

The data collection process is important to create a baseline health status for identifying at risk participants, assessing program success, and creating a wellness program with solid incentives.

Custom Health Risk Assessments (HRAs) – Interra Health creates and administers proprietary paper and online questionnaires.

Biometric Screening – Designed as a way to maintain high quality standards, biometric screens are performed by Interra Health employees. Typical tests include height, weight, body mass index, body composition, blood pressure and a blood draw. The blood draw can be performed via fingerstick or venipuncture.

Although virtually any blood test can be performed with a venipuncture, the standard tests include:

Cholesterol Ratio

Triglycerides

Glucose

Total Cholesterol

HDL

LDL

Common add-ons include cotinine (nicotine), prostate specific antigen (PSA), and full chemistry panels.

Health Improvement Programs

Following up on collected data is vital for a successful wellness program. Health improvement programs should be verifiable and available to all participants. They should be proactive and specifically target certain at risk participants in a motivational manner that promotes accountability and long-term lifestyle change.

The focus of our health improvement programs is addressing underlying issues and changing lifestyles that result in improved health and biometrics – this is the secret to sustainable health improvement. There are varied types of follow-up programs available:

Health Coaching – We offer onsite, telephonic, and hybrid coaching. As a means of maintaining high quality standards, Interra Health Coaches are employees of Interra Health and registered nurses.

Compliance Programs

What good is a wellness program if only 25% of healthcare consumers are participating? What’s worse is that those who are participating are usually among the healthiest members of the population.

A return-on-investment for wellness programs typically comes from improving the risks of unhealthy individuals. Interra Health will help design and administer your incentive program to maximize participation in the data collection process and health improvement programs.

Reporting

Similar to most wellness vendors, Interra Health provides each participant with an individual health risk report and the employer with an aggregate report. But Interra Health goes well beyond these basic reports to provide comprehensive return-on-investment reports and other custom reports.

We are able to do this because Interra Health has developed and owns its own technology. This means that we will never lose data and can create a variety of specialized reports for our clients.
